Furby › FAQ
QuestionsAsked in Furbish, answered in English
The questions we hear most, with straight answers.
Does Furby connect to the internet?
No. Furby does not connect to the internet or to other devices. There is no app and no account; everything Furby does runs on the toy itself.
How do I turn Furby off?
Hey Furby powers down when you triple-tap the heart gem or lay it on its back. DJ Furby has a quick power-off and a volume control that goes all the way to off. Furblets go to sleep when you hold the top of the head for three seconds.
What batteries does Furby need?
Hey Furby, Furby Vibes and DJ Furby each need 4 AA batteries, which are not included. Furblets and DJ Furblets come with their A76/LR44 button cells already installed. Minis have no electronics.
What is Furbish?
Furbish is our own language. Hey Furby and DJ Furby speak both English and Furbish; Furby Vibes, Furblets and DJ Furblets speak only Furbish. Start with ee-tay (yes), boo (no) and noo-lah (friend).
What age is Furby for?
Most Furby toys are made for ages 6 and up. Furby Minis figure packs start at 5 and up. Check the age grade on each product page.
Do Furbys talk to each other?
Yes. Put two Furbys together and they interact, and full-size Furby also reacts to Furblets. Each friend is sold separately.
Where do orders, returns and warranty go?
Buying happens on our partner store's product listing, so shipping, returns and warranty are handled there, under that order. We can help with questions about the toys themselves.
How much is a Furby worth now?
A new Hey Furby sells for roughly $57 to $80 and Furblets for about $9 to $20. Original 1998 Furbys are a collector's market with prices that depend on colour, condition and box. Our Forever Collector 5-Pack recreates five 1998 colour styles as small figures.
What is the story behind Furby?
Furby was invented by David Hampton and Caleb Chung and released on October 2, 1998. New generations followed in 2005, 2012 and 2016, and the current fifth generation, Hey Furby, launched on June 22, 2023 for our 25th anniversary.
What do Furby Furblets do?
Furblets are 2-inch electronic mini friends. Tap the head for a Furbish phrase, the heart gem for music and the beak for feeding sounds; holding each one for three seconds does something different. Each Furblet has its own music style and 45+ sounds.
Can Furblets interact with Furbys?
Yes. Hold Hey Furby's heart gem for five seconds until it says "Furdar activated", then hold the Furblet's heart gem. Two Furblets harmonise when you hold both beaks down for three seconds.
How do you get Furblets to work?
They ship in try-me mode with batteries installed. Follow the instruction sheet to switch to full play, then tap the top of the head to wake them. If the ears are folded down, a press on the head pops them open.
Was Furby really banned?
In 1999 some US government offices kept Furbys out over a worry that they could record speech. The 1998 Furby could not record anything. Today's Hey Furby only records in Copycat mode, to play your words back in a silly voice, and never connects to the internet.
